Smile design in Colombia is where you go when you want more than just a whiter smile — you want a complete transformation. Smile design (also called a smile makeover) is the process of analyzing your facial features, smile proportions, and aesthetic goals, and then crafting a treatment plan that addresses everything at once: color, shape, size, symmetry, and gum line. Done well, it does not just look dental. It looks like the best version of you.
Smile design is not a single treatment — it is a coordinated plan that may include several procedures working together. A typical smile design for an international patient might combine porcelain veneers to change the shape and color of teeth, professional whitening as a base layer, gum contouring to create an even gum line, and sometimes a crown or two for severely damaged teeth. The plan is completely individualized — what your smile needs is not what someone else’s needs.
The hallmark of good smile design is that it looks natural. The goal is not an artificially white, overly uniform Hollywood smile — it is a smile that looks like yours, just significantly improved. Our cosmetic dentists work with digital design tools (Digital Smile Design software) that let you preview your result before any irreversible work begins.
Colombia has a strong culture of aesthetics and personal presentation that has driven the development of a large, competitive cosmetic dentistry sector. Smile design specialists here are not simply general dentists doing cosmetic work on the side — many are full-time cosmetic specialists who have trained abroad and do smile makeovers as their primary focus.
The country also benefits from excellent dental lab infrastructure. The ceramics labs that fabricate porcelain veneers in Bogotá and Medellín produce work of genuinely high quality — the kind of natural-looking, custom-shaded veneers that are indistinguishable from exceptional natural teeth.
A complete smile design in Colombia — typically 6-10 porcelain veneers, whitening, and any additional procedures — runs approximately $3,000-$6,000 USD for most patients. The equivalent treatment in the United States would typically cost $12,000-$25,000 or more. In the UK or Canada, comparable pricing applies.
The savings are not due to lower quality. They reflect lower operating costs, lower lab fees, and a more competitive dental market. The veneers are still E.max or Zirconia porcelain. The dentist is still a specialist. The result is still photographable. See our Cost of Dental Work in Colombia page for the full cost breakdown.
Before you travel, you send us photos (a full face smile and close-up shots of your teeth) via WhatsApp. Our cosmetic dentist prepares an initial analysis and discusses the possibilities with you. You get a cost estimate. If you proceed, we schedule your appointments around your planned travel dates.
On your first appointment, we take clinical photographs, precise measurements, and digital scans. Your smile design is prepared digitally — you can see and approve the proposed result before anything is done to your teeth. We may also make a mock-up (temporary resin applied directly to your teeth) so you can see and feel the proposed result before committing.
Treatment typically takes 2-4 appointments over 7-10 days. The final porcelain veneers are fabricated by our specialist ceramic lab and bonded in the final session. You leave with your new smile. See our How It Works page for the full process.
Porcelain veneers are durable and stain-resistant. With proper care — regular brushing and flossing, routine dental check-ups, avoiding biting hard objects with veneered teeth, and wearing a night guard if you grind — they can last 10-15 years or more. We provide detailed aftercare instructions and remain available via WhatsApp for any questions after you return home.
You can also see examples of our results in our Before and After gallery.
Can I really see the result before it is done?
Yes. Digital Smile Design and the physical mock-up allow you to preview and approve your result before any irreversible work begins. We build in this step as standard for all smile makeover patients.
How long do veneers last?
Porcelain veneers last 10-15 years on average with good care. Composite veneers typically last 5-7 years. We always recommend porcelain for international patients given the longevity advantage.
Will my smile look natural?
This is our primary design goal. We work with you to choose a shade and shape that looks natural for your skin tone, facial features, and age. We do not do “chiclet teeth” unless that is specifically what you want.
Can I combine smile design with teeth whitening?
Yes. Whitening is often done first as part of the planning process, and veneers are then shaded to match the new whitened tone. See our Teeth Whitening Colombia page for more on the whitening process.
What cities offer smile design?
All nine of our locations. Bogotá and Medellín have the highest concentration of full-time cosmetic specialists, but all our clinics offer smile design services.
How do I get started?
Message us on WhatsApp with a photo of your smile. We will give you a free consultation and treatment proposal — no obligation, no cost.
